Job Description:
This position reports to the Special Education Supervisor and is responsible for providing classroom instruction to students with a wide range of therapeutic needs. The special education teacher is primarily responsible for identifying, planning, and delivering appropriate individualized educational services as identified on the Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Scope
Ensure the classroom adheres to the Colorado Department of Education and State Licensing requirements and guidelines.
Provide specialized instruction to students with moderate to severe emotional and behavioral problems.
Provide educational assessment using academic-psycho-educational test batteries in accordance with department guidelines to develop a baseline for planning care and school disposition. May provide formal or informal assessment not limited to psycho-educational tests.
Developand implement individualized education plans of care to provide appropriate instruction and a positive learning experience.
Utilize trauma-informed care to establish and maintain strong relationships with patients, effectively interpret behavior, and appropriately respond to meet the patient's needs.
Create written or visual materials regarding the educational needs of patients and families to meet the educational needs of your patients.
Provide family members with appropriate educational information, resources, and recommendations.
Work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to meet the educational needs of patients.
Provide educational recommendations based on assessment data and knowledge of educational resources to assist in treatment planning and patient care.
Foster a positive learning environment for patients through structured curriculum and customized educational activities to meet individual needs and to promote academic achievement.
Determine appropriate educational placement and educational instruction utilizing assessment, patient history, and current patient status.
Collaborate with public and private educational systems to obtain and communicate educational information in accordance with educational law and department guidelines to arrange appropriate educational services and transition plans.
Advocate for patients and families within public and private schools by establishing transition plans as needed.
Anticipate and diffuses patient behaviors that have the likelihood to lead to out-of-control behaviors. Responds calmly and safely to escalating behaviors, asks for assistance as needed, and responds with a team-based approach.
Respond to patient crises through effective use of crisis response interventions up to and including physical restraint.
Maintain compliance with appropriate school accreditation and professional licensure standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required
Colorado Teaching License with endorsement in special education required
Current Driver's License and must obtain Colorado Driver's License within 30 days of moving to Colorado, required
Colorado Teaching License with endorsement in special education, required

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
$25.00 - $32.63
