    Job #2019948715

  • The Data Science and Learning Division (DSL) at Argonne National Laboratory has an opening for a research scientist (RD1/RD2) to develop and apply novel data preprocessing and deep learning (DL) methods to further our application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in science. Applying your understanding of current DL frameworks and emerging hardware architectures to new applications of AI in science will be particularly rewarding.

This research opportunity aims to develop and apply novel DL methods on scientific problems of central importance to scientific domains such as biology, chemistry, environmental science, materials science, etc. using the most advanced DL computer architectures available today and in the future.

As part of the DSL, the candidate will have the opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary environment with biological and environmental scientists, computer scientists, and mathematicians while having access to some of the largest computing resources in the world, including the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF) as well as the newest systems for DL in the ALCF AI-Testbed, such as those from Cerebras, SambaNova, Groq, and Graphcore.

    Responsibilities :

The successful candidate will be an integral part of a multi-institutional research team that is using AI to advance scientific understanding of current problems in biomedical science, as well as advance our understanding of the latest applications of DL software and hardware. This position will be responsible for executing research directions with projects in support of the overall project objectives. The successful candidate will collaborate with some of the leading scientists in machine learning and biology across the Department of Energy national laboratories.

    Position Requirements

    • Proficiency in Python, Tensorflow or Pytorch, transformer frameworks, and other modules related to machine learning and DL

    • Experience running codes on modern high-performance computing systems

    • Experience running DL codes on GPU accelerators, including the latest NVIDIA GPUs
