Watch Out for Excuse-itis

Posted by

Have you ever heard some of your friends or family members tell you why they didn’t follow through on something they set out to do? Some of the excuses you probably heard sounded something like this:

I did not have enough time
There were people ahead of me who got there first
I didn’t realize that …
I didn’t really want to ..
I was too busy
I didn’t feel well
I really didn’t care
I didn’t know how
It seemed too complicated
It wasn’t my cup of tea
I am going to get to that later

And the list can go on and on. Essentially what they are communicating is that they were just not motivated. The sad thing about it is that people with excuse-itis really don’t believe their excuses, but they think you do.

People with excuse-itis live a life of mediocrity and dull disappointment. They are like the guy that was in his late forties. He was out of work, but he had plenty of excuses for not finding a new career. He went to a fortune teller and here is what she told him, “You will be, sad dejected, miserable and broke until you are fifty years old.” He then asked her expectantly, “Then what?”
She replied, “Oh, by then, you’ll be used to it.” That is exactly what happens to a lot of people who are heavy on excuses and lean on action. They get used to living that way. It is not much fun, nor is it very fulfilling.

To prevent this type of scenario from happening in your life, make up your mind, right now, to take responsibility, and then take action to get the kind of results you want. By doing this, you will live the kind of life that allows you to truly fulfill your God given potential.
