How to Make Time for Yourself

Posted by

With so much complexity in the world, it is not hard to feel overly stressed. Deadlines, being over committed, work related issues, interpersonal problems, not to mention car problems, can add up to one big ball of stress. The moment to take a time out is when your day gets so hectic that you cannot stand it. It is far too easy to become frazzled in your day to day living. Unless you make the time to take a few quiet moments for yourself, no one else will do it for you. Taking this approach to living can make your job search efforts so much more effective.

When you are able to slow your thoughts down, you are able to think more clearly. Life becomes more deliberate when you can consciously take charge of your thought patterns. By taking control of your thoughts, you allow the peaceful powers of the universe to come to your aid.

One of the easiest ways to do this is to try this exercise. Close your eyes, and imagine a hidden door located within the room you are now sitting. Take eight or nine deep breaths, inhaling and exhaling slowly. Then imagine yourself standing up and walking up to the hidden door, opening it and walking into your imaginary space, and closing the door behind you.

As you look about, you see a beautiful crystal blue lake in front of you. There is no one else around. You feel a soft breeze caress your cheeks, and you feel the bright, warm sun gently kiss the back of your neck and shoulders. You see waves gently moving with a few sea gulls lazily flying overhead. The trees are a luscious green color and the sky is a bright blue. Directly in front of you is bright green, soft grass that leads to an expansive sandy beach. You leisurely stroll down to the shore where there is one empty beach chair waiting for you. You take off your shoes and socks and roll up your pants and walk out into the water a few feet. As you hear their quiet roar, the waves gently come to meet you. The cool water runs up over your ankles and you feel pleasantly refreshed and invigorated. You walk back out of the lake and take a deep sigh as you sit down in your beach chair.

As you gaze out into the lake you see the suns’ rays dancing off of the waves. You see a sail boat with a bright red sail gently wafting in the breeze as it slowly glides across the lake. You breathe deeply and take the sights, the sounds and feeling of this beautiful experience into your mind and body.

After a few moments you slowly open your eyes and feel refreshed and encouraged to know that you can go and visit this place whenever you want. This short exercise can be very helpful in slowing down your hectic life and adding more balance and harmony to it. A quiet mind and tranquil spirit will help you face the challenges of everyday living and enjoy your life more fully.
