How to Get Your Morning Job Search Started with a Cold Shower

Posted by

I came across an article about two months ago on the benefits of taking cold showers. I found it quite intriguing, so I researched further and found there were many, many benefits of taking a cold shower. One of the benefits I kept reading about was how it helped with your mood and motivation. These are perfect allies when one is searching for a new construction job. I know from my own past job searches that keeping my attitude positive could be a major challenge when I faced rejection and disappointment on a regular basis.

Alexa Fleckenstein, M.D., author of Health20 listed a total 21 benefits of this unique form of health practice. Here are eleven of them:

1. Enhance immunity against infections and cancer
2. Jump-start your mood and motivation
3. Decrease chronic pain
4. Train and improve your blood circulation
5. Detoxify your body
6. Fight fatigue
7. Rejuvenate, heal, and tone the skin
8. Deepen your breathing
9. Help with insomnia
10. Keep your hair healthy
11. Reduce aches and pains

One author suggested you take a cold shower for a minimum of one minute, another suggested no more than ten minutes. I figured I could handle that, and despite the cold dark mornings in February, I decided to challenge myself to try this natural approach to better health. In an effort to gain some moral support, I shared with my wife my thoughts about trying this zany natural therapy. She looked at me like I had lost my ability to think rationally. When I encouraged her to give it a try as well, she rolled her eyes and replied quite emphatically, “I don’t think so!” She quickly added that I could never get her to take a cold shower no matter how many benefits there were. I thought to myself, “hmmm no moral encouragement here.”

Undaunted, I promised myself that I would start this new found therapy the next morning. At dawn of the next day, after finishing my morning workout, I bravely stepped into the shower, closed the door and turned on the cold water handle. What a jolt to my system! I thought I saw blue and green sparks fly as I closed my eyes to help me deal with this frigid H2O that was pelting my body. Immediately my skin started to turn red, and since the redness in my skin indicated that blood was rushing to the parts of my body that were submerged under the cold water, I knew it must be working. The first day I endured it for a full sixty seconds, and by the end of the week I was up to a minute and a half. Within two weeks I found myself staying in this cold shower for a full two minutes.

Each day, after toweling down and stepping out of the shower, I started to notice a natural feeling of euphoria. My body, as red as a beet where the water had left its mark, resonated with a feeling of well being. My mind felt reenergized and I felt like I had discovered a secret to a better life. True to my promise, I have continued this new health practice to this day and I would encourage you to try it out for yourself. Give it time to start to feel the benefits, and you will have developed a new way to reenergize and keep yourself healthy and motivated.
