    Position Summary:

    The Staff Mechanical Engineer works independently to provide mechanical engineering and design services in the R&D engineering group. Develops concepts, designs and details for capital equipment, consumable devices, tools, fixtures, and products. Contributes independently to the completion of projects and goals and may have direct reports.

    Works collaboratively with other cross-function teams in supporting project plans. May work on projects involving more than one engineering discipline and involving engineering teams from other functional areas. Leads small to medium sized projects.

    Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

    • Develop and deliver robust and stable mechanical systems for medical devices, from the concept phase and research through requirements & specifications, design, simulation, testing, integration and debugging, to manufacturing and post-launch support

    • Performs hands-on and simulated testing for design verification and test method developments.

    • Creates and edits engineering technical reports, work instructions and method and process validation related documents.

    • Performs FEA for troubleshooting or analyzing/verifying the design.

    • Studies specifications, engineering drawings, tool designs, and shop data to confer with engineering and shop personnel for resolving design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and cost.

    • Inspects and oversees testing of prototypes, tools, and fixtures after fabrication to ensure that they meet specifications.

    • Collaborate with engineers in electrical, firmware, software, test, and other fields to build innovative solutions and ensure requirements and specifications are met

    • Possess capability in design methodologies related to DFx (design for reliability, manufacturability, Serviceability etc.)

    Qualifications

    • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering required

    • A minimum of 6 years of R&D experience in devices/systems

    • Has demonstrated Mechanical Engineering competency with full knowledge of industry practices

    • Experience in opto-mechanical design

    • Knowledge and experience in CAD software such as SolidWorks and FEA software such as ANSYS, COMSOL.

    • Works on problems of complex scope and demonstrate systematic/analytical problem-solving skills

    • Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.

    • Good communication skills orally, in writing, and in presentations.

    Preferred :

    • Master's or Ph.D. Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred

    • A minimum of 2 years' experience in optical systems design.

    • Broad understanding of medical devices/instrumentation used in ophthalmology.

    • Experience leading projects

    Other:

    The anticipated base salary for this position is $119,000 to $166,800.
