    As part of the Discovery Biotherapeutics efforts at BMS, the Protein Production & Quality Attributes (PPQA) Team plays a key role in producing, delivering, and characterizing a first-in-class and best-in-class Biotherapeutics pipeline. The Sr. Scientist position in Protein Production & Quality Attributes will be located in San Diego (CA), while working with a cross-functional matrix team across two other BMS sites located in Cambridge (MA) and the San Francisco Bay Area (CA). The primary responsibility will be to design, execute LC-MS based workflows in support of characterizing a wide range of biologics drug candidates, including antibody drug conjugates, bispecific and multi-specific antibodies, and other biomolecule formats to progress BMS's robust pipeline that spans multiple disease areas. This role of Sr. Scientist will also be crucial in enabling cross-functional support and collaborations among protein engineering, antibody function & cellular activity, and computational biologics.

    Key Responsibilities

    In the role, the ideal candidate:

    • The successful candidate must be capable of working and operating in a laboratory environment for the entirety of their work schedule.

    • Significant past experience in protein mass spectrometry assays, including intact / reduced / subunit mass analysis, peptide mapping, native MS, etc.

    • Develop fit-for-purpose analytical assays, operate and maintain LC-MS instruments, independently perform data processing, and communicate domain-specific knowledge / results to general audience.

    • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to resolve challenges related to drug discovery, pre-clinical characterizations, developability assessment.

    • Champion lab safety, lab organization, results documentation

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree with 7+ years of academic and / or industry experience

    • OR

    • Master's Degree with5+ years of academic and / or industry experience

    • OR

    • PhD or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences with2+ years of academic and / or industry experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in various mass spectrometry techniques for protein and antibody characterizations (intact mass analysis, peptide mapping analysis, subunit analysis).

    • Experienced in operating LC-MS instruments such as Exploris480 Orbitrap, Bruker MaXis II; experienced with data processing workflows using Protein Metrics, Expressionist, or other equivalent.

    • Strong knowledge and experience of lab automation is a plus.

    • Hands-on experience working with antibody-drug-conjugate (ADC) is a plus.

    • Working knowledge of other analytical techniques such as SEC, IEX, CE-SDS, cIEF is desired.

    • Strong fundamental understanding of protein chemistry.

    • Working knowledge of bioanalysis.
