Microsoft's Cloud Operations and Innovation Organization (CO+I) is seeking a Senior Test Engineer - Electrical for the Office of the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) .
As we continue to grow and introduce new datacenter infrastructure technologies, the need for comprehensive test strategies that ensure product readiness becomes critical.
The Senior Test Engineer role will develop test strategies, plans, and reports that will ensure Microsoft's successful launch of new, innovative solutions for the next generation of datacenters across large electrical systems, facility cooling, industrial automation and/or complex controls systems.
Working closely with product development teams, datacenter design, supply chain, quality, operations, and others the test engineering team ensures high quality requirements up front that not only drive clarity into product design direction but allow for deterministic testing that validates readiness against clear pass/fail criteria. Additionally, the test engineering team provides detailed test reporting that demonstrates product readiness and brings insights to defects detected and potential remediation.

Responsibilities
Develop and sustain test hardware and software.
Develop and maintain test frameworks for datacenter technology across large electrical systems, facility cooling systems, and/or industrial automation and complex controls systems.
Develop tailored test plans for specific solutions across the verticals mentioned above that maximize test coverage while minimizing cost and schedule impacts.
Work with internal customers and component/product partners to determine the best test methodologies for current for upcoming new technologies in the datacenter industry, specifically across energy, cooling, facility and/or industrial automation.
Provide expertise judgement on test readiness before build start including test hardware, software, and/or automation perspectives.
Steer through identified risks with timely risk assessments and mitigations to internal/external partners.
Drive test optimization to speed time to market and reduce cost without compromising product quality.
Develop a stable and efficient core test catalog and deploy test solutions for datacenter technology portfolios.
Develop and maintain documentation on processes or procedures.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
12+ years relevant technical engineering experience
OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience
OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience
OR Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience.
4+ years of experience with datacenter technologies in the electrical space
4+ years experience in functional test with high-volume production targets as a test engineer
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
Experience in medium/high voltage power engineering
Experience with operations and servers
Familiar with energy and cooling technologies in the datacenter industry
Demonstrated ability to build comprehensive, efficient test catalogs for datacenter technologies
Experience navigating through ambiguity and navigating to practical processes or flow
Experience communicating across organizational boundaries and a range of disciplines to solve challenges
Reliability Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
