The Stanford Nanofabrication Facility (SNF) provides equipment and expertise in nanoscale science and engineering to Stanford and other researchers from academic, industrial, and government labs across the US and around the globe. Every year, over 400 researchers in engineering, medicine, physics, and chemistry use our cleanroom and satellite labs to make structures and devices that help them understand the world and work to make it a better place. More than a lab, it's a vibrant research community.

We seek an experienced fabrication Senior Process Engineer to support research operations. This candidate should be an individual who works well as part of a strong team and in a customer-oriented environment to devise creative, effective solutions to everyday lab concerns. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering fundamentals and have demonstrated practical, hands-on know-how.

This position will be responsible for managing the MOCVD thin films functional area: process, equipment, and user community engagement. The role is to enable our world-class researchers to turn their ideas into real devices, so an in-depth background in process integration is a big plus. Beyond research operations, this position will also support new educational initiatives to make fabrication more accessible to all learners everywhere. Although the core competency of SNF is based in semiconductor technologies, our user community is forward-looking and trans-disciplinary; thus, the candidate should be flexible and well-versed in engineering fundamentals in order to adapt to a changing technology landscape beyond silicon.

Your responsibilities include:

• Provide leadership and scientific expertise in the planning and implementation of major projects, services, facilities, and activities.

• Develop advanced technological ideas and guide their development into new approaches to research. Carry out complex or unique assignments important to the advancement of technology education.

• Provide expert consultation and collaboration regarding technical requirements, capabilities, and advancement opportunities; make substantive contributions in diverse technical areas.

• Provide technical direction to other research staff, engineering associates, technicians, and/or students; facilitate workshops and demonstrations on research methods; educate and train users on research methodology and effective tools and techniques.

• Contribute to or co-author published articles, presentations, or scientific papers; identify research and development funding opportunities.

• Supervise staff and resources to meet program objectives.

Education & Experience (Required):

• Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Required):

• Expert knowledge of the principles of engineering and related natural sciences.

• Demonstrated project leadership experience.

• Demonstrated experience leading and/or managing technical professionals.

Education & Experience (Desired):

• Ability to work in a cleanroom environment.

• Strong background in Materials, Materials Engineering, or Chemistry.

• Strong background in Electronics Process Integration.

• Experience working with hand tools and analytical instruments used for troubleshooting equipment.

• Software skills:familiarity working with databases, Python.

Working Conditions:

• May be exposed to high voltage electricity, radiation or electromagnetic fields, lasers, noise > 80dB TWA, Allergens/Biohazards/Chemicals /Asbestos, confined spaces, working at heights =10 feet, temperature extremes, heavy metals, unusual work hours or routine overtime and/or inclement weather.

• May require travel.

Physical Requirements:*

• Frequently grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

• Occasionally stand/walk, sit, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp forcefully.

• Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), reach/work above shoulders, use a telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, operate foot and/or hand controls, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.

Pay Range:

The expected pay range for this position is $117,000 to $172,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
