  • The Silicon Cloud hardware and Infrastructure Engineering(SCHIE) Hardware Diagnostic and Telemetry Services (HDTS) Centre of Excellence (CoE) plays a critical role in architecting, developing and supporting hardware Telemetry and Diagnostic services for New Product Introduction(NPI) of Graphics Processing Unit(GPU), Central Processing Unit(CPU) and Storage systems and sustain the millions of Servers in Azure Fleet. We work closely with Microsoft product groups, industry partners and researchers to architect and develop server Telemetry and Diagnostics solutions to support servicing of the Server hardware.

    We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer who has a good understanding of Hardware systems, Software architecture and automation.

    Responsibilities

    • Architecture and Design of Telemetry and Diagnostics of GPU, CPU and Storage systems to detect Hardware issues and determine Repair actions.

    • Collaborate with technical leaders and SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) within Microsoft as well as with external partners & vendors in the industry.

    • Evaluate the system design of the New Products, assess the impact from Telemetry and Hardware Diagnostics point of view.

    • Provide technical direction to Telemetry and HW diagnostic software Engineers.

    • Hands on knowledge on C / C++, C# and scripting languages (Python, Pearl, Linux Bash, etc.)

    • Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in Open Standards for Telemetry Diagnostics technologies, and provide thought leadership in this domain.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    • OR equivalent experience.

    • 4+ years of hands-on experience in solving hardware and software problems in PC, Enterprise server, Cloud Server (X86 environment and/or ARM64) or similar systems.

    • 3+ years of experience on several of the key technology areas such as Graphics Processing Unit(GPU), Central Processing Unit(CPU), chipsets, motherboards, Field Programmable Gate Arrays(FPGA), Basic Input Output Systems(BIOS), Baseboard Management Controllers(BMC), memory, PCIe, storage, networking, Power, Thermal.

    • 2+ years of experience in Hardware systems, Software architecture and automation.

    Other Requirements:

    • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Masters or BE in Computer Science, Electronics or Electrical Engineering with 12+ years of hands-on experience in C/C++/C# in Linux and (or) Windows Server environments.

    • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

    • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in cross-functional teams?. Be able to plan and adapt to a rapidly evolving environment.

    • Hands-on knowledge and experience of GPU and x86 architecture and/or ARM 64 Systems Management industry standards and skills to work in a laboratory environment.

    Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
