  • General Description

    The Johns Hopkins Executive and Preventive Health program is seeking a full-time Internal Medicine physician to provide direct medical care in an outpatient adult health care setting. Candidates should have a passion for preventive care and wellness. Clinical time will be spent at the newly remodeled Executive & Preventive Medicine suite at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The physician will see a variety of patients for preventive care physicals that are scheduled by the Executive and Preventive health staff. They will provide ongoing consultation and management in accordance with accepted standards of practice on the days and at the times established and scheduled. Based on the applicant's interest, additional clinical activities (ie, primary care practice), teaching and scholarship opportunities would be available.

    The physician will attend administrative meetings as needed.

    The physician will utilize the electronic medical records system (Epic) to fulfill all administrative responsibilities attendant to his/her performance of direct patient care. These responsibilities include timely and accurate completion and entry of patient notes of all patient encounters detailing services provided, and treatment plans recommended, as well as any other required documentation required by the Johns Hopkins Hospital in accordance with its medical staff bylaws, and the policies and procedures of the Johns Hopkins Clinical Practice Association and the Executive and Preventive Health Program.

    The physician will be expected to meet the target productivity standards for the program, and is expected to have a full patient schedule during his/her clinical schedule; clinical activity and productivity will be tracked periodically and provided; the physician will not be penalized if a scheduled patient does not show up at the time of his or her scheduled appointment.

    In providing physician services, Clinical Associate will exercise independent medical judgment consistent with approved methods and practices in his/her specialty and in the best interest of the patients.

    Other duties as assigned.

    Licensure, Certifications, Registration:

    M.D. Degree or the equivalent from an accredited medical school. Physician must be eligible to obtain licensure to practice medicine in Maryland and Washington, DC, and must be Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and must maintain Board certification throughout duration of employment.

    Physician shall have DEA Certifications and Controlled Substance (CDS) Certification for Washington DC and Maryland.

    Excellent diagnostic, therapeutic, and interpersonal skills. Outstanding verbal and written communication, and the ability to interact well with patients, family members, colleagues, staff. Reliability, flexibility, professional manner, and organizational skills are essential. Must have excellent attention to detail and record keeping. Must be able to problem solve, prioritize responsibilities, and manage several priorities at once. Must be adaptive to changing technologies, for example, electronic medical records.

    Physician shall at all times be qualified, professionally competent, and duly licensed to practice medicine and prescribe all pharmaceuticals in the State of Maryland and Washington, DC and shall complete requirements for obtaining and maintaining licensure, including successful completion of required background checks. Physician represents that as of the Effective Date, he/she is not subject to, or threatened with any investigation, censure, probation, suspension, or other adverse action with respect to his/her medical license in any jurisdiction.

    Experience

    Completion of ACGME Internal Medicine Residency training program.

    Clinical experience with populations in an outpatient setting is preferred.

    Physical Requirements

    Sitting, standing and walking for extended period of time. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Stooping and bending. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a clinical environment.

    Equipment, Machine or Tool Requirements:

    Daily use of personal computer and keyboard, telephone, fax and photocopy machines

    NOTE: The successful candidate(s) for this position will be subject to a pre-employment background check.

    During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

    The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
