    The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) & U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) and U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM) Operations Department (N256) provides applied systems and mission engineering to both Combatant Commands (CCMD). N256 is a critical element of the Joint Staff / Unified CCMD Division (N250), emphasizing collaboration and mission-focused solutions. N256 is seeking a Group Leader to lead personnel in Colorado Springs who largely support the NORAD/ USNORTHCOM and USSPACECOM work programs. The successful candidate for this role will supervise, lead, and aid in oversight of work quality. In addition, the candidate will focus on staff development, increasing technical expertise, delivering high-quality technical products, and assisting and growing the group's contributions to the work program. The selected candidate will help evolve N256 Department and N250 Division outcomes, actively working as part of the leadership team to support and craft the organization's strategic direction, identifying new opportunities and initiatives, and leading related activities. Candidates should have a track record of leading people, being innovative, and collaborating across boundaries. The Group Leader role is critical to both staff development and department outcomes.

    Group Leaders lead and manage assigned department staff focused on applied systems engineering in support of 2 x Combatant Commands, on topics such as Homeland Defense, Space C2, Critical Infrastructure Resilience, Modeling & Simulation, Digital Engineering, Space "Protect & Defend" missions, Space as a Warfighting Domain, Arctic Communications/Experimentation, Global Information Dominance/Globally Integrated Operations. The group is highly experienced in using analytics to design systems and identify mission-focused architectures.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Serve as direct supervisor for ~8-10 assigned staff

    • Primary point of contact on human resources matters for the employees in their Group (to include participating in the annual performance and compensation cycles for their employees by assessing performance and recommending salary adjustments and promotions).

    • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative work environment

    • Partner with Project Leaders/Task Leaders to identify appropriate project opportunities where staff can leverage skills they have and continue to develop new skills.

    • Guide staff in crafting impactful, SMART goals that will challenge and focus them.

    • Work to ensure staff contribute to and are accountable for sponsor outcomes.

    • Maximize employee potential, motivation, and engagement.

    • Ensure staff are constantly involved in project work and learning opportunities that align with career aspirations and development plans.

    • Solicit and provide regular feedback to employee(s) to help them grow.

    • Manage challenging interpersonal dynamics and performance concerns amongst employees in their Group, their colleagues, and the project leaders they support.

    • Working collaboratively with other COS-based GLs and PLs

    • Contribute to department strategic planning activities and serve as part of the department leadership team

    Minimum Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in a STEM or analysis related field, and 84 years related experience; or Master's and 6 years of related experience.

    • Active Secret Clearance and ability to acquire TS/SCI clearance

    • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and advocate for all levels of staff

    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

    • Ability to formulate group level and department-level goals

    • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the department's strengths

    • Experience with Combatant Command Operations/Missions

    • Space Warfighting Command & Control

    • Space Warfighting Targeting & Joint Fires Synchronization

    • Applied systems engineering/mission engineering experience

    • Operations Research

    • Arctic Experimentation

    • Modeling and tools

    • Design analytics

    • Operational Requirements

    • Proven track record of innovative thinking and risk taking to achieve significant work program, sponsor, or organizational outcomes.

    • This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Possess an active TS/SCI clearance

    • Bachelor's degree in a STEM or analysis related field, and 10 years related experience; or Master's and 8 years of related experience.
