    Junior IT System Administrator - Network Security Focus

    Job Overview

    We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Junior IT System Administrator whose primary job responsibilities will include providing network security support to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will assist in the management and maintenance of our organization's IT infrastructure, with a primary focus on ensuring the security and integrity of our endpoint and network systems. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an entry-level professional looking to develop their skills in IT administration and network security within a supportive and collaborative environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Network Administration and Security Monitoring: Assist in monitoring and analyzing network traffic and SOC alerts for signs of unauthorized access, intrusions, malware, or other security incidents.

    • Assist in monitoring system performance, analyze system logs, and conduct regular security checks to ensure the integrity and availability of IT resources.

    • Vulnerability Management: Support the identification and remediation of network vulnerabilities through regular scanning, patch management, and configuration reviews.

    • Firewall Administration: Assist in the configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of firewall devices to ensure the security and integrity of our network perimeter.

    • Identity and Access Management: Support the administration of user accounts, access controls, and authentication mechanisms to ensure secure access to network resources.

    • Security Policy Compliance: Assist in ensuring compliance with internal security policies, industry regulations, and best practices for network security.

    • Security Awareness Training: Support the delivery of security awareness training programs to educate employees about network security risks and best practices.

    • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, security controls, and incident response procedures, and generate reports as needed.

    • Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: Collaborate with other IT team members to share knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned.

    • Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers, network devices, and other IT systems.

    • Support the Systems Administrator with other tasks and projects as assigned, including but not limited to system upgrades, software installations, and user training.

    • Helpdesk Support: Provide additional level 1 and position relevant level 2 helpdesk support.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field preferred.

    • 1+ years of experience in a relevant IT support role preferred.

    • Strong interest in network and endpoint security and a desire to develop expertise in this area.

    • Basic understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, Active Directory, Entra AD).

    • Familiarity with common network security tools and technologies (e.g., firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, EDR).

    • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, practices, and standards (e.g., NIST Cybersecurity Framework, CIS Controls).

    • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking skills, and attention to detail.

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

    • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, Cisco CCNA Security) are a plus but not required.
