    Job Description:

    JOB SUMMARY:

    The G.I. Endoscopy Technician allows individuals the opportunity for on the job education and training to broaden their knowledge of gastroenterology. This individual works under supervision, to assist with patient care in the Endoscopy procedure room with therapeutic procedures, complete reprocessing of procedural instruments, supplies maintenance and room set up and tear down. The G.I. Endoscopy Technician will complete educational training and exams and will be assigned a designated mentor(s) to develop skills necessary to perform the G.I. Endoscopy Technician essential functions within the scope of the role. This individual performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic Health Systems' (MCHS) mission, policies and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    1. Studies educational components and passes exams to complete patient care functions within the scope of the role.

    2. Participates in preparation of the patient procedures as directed by the physician.

    3. Exhibits the ability to participate in the care of all age groups from the Neonate to Geriatric.

    4. Performs room set up and tear down to maintain a clean environment for patient care procedures.

    5. Observes and assists with reprocessing of procedural instruments to learn how to independently complete reprocessing necessary for effective patient care.

    6. Reprocesses procedural instruments to ensure instruments are clean, disinfected and/or sterilized and safe for patient care.

    7. Provides safe, clean, tested and inspected items by performing the following decontamination functions: accurately operates instrument washers and disassembles and cleans with appropriate solutions and methods.

    8. Maintains all records relating to the monitoring and testing of the decontamination/disinfection process.

    9. Applies knowledge and ability for appropriate care and handling of instruments and scopes by inspecting for cleanliness, damage and proper function and ensures leak testing is done on all scopes.

    10. Maintains records on scope and instrumentation maintenance.

    11. Assists physicians with completing screening or diagnostic procedures to provide information to effectively diagnose patient conditions.

    12. Observes and assists senior G.I. Endoscopy Technicians with therapeutic procedures to learn how to efficiently complete patient care procedures safely.

    13. Assists physicians to complete therapeutic procedures to provide effective patient care.

    14. Completes fecal dis-impaction and enema administration to assist with elevating the patient's condition.

    15. Evaluates supply status to order and stock necessary items to ensure adequate supplies are available for use for patient care.

    16. Trains and mentors new G.I. Endoscopy Technicians and ensure they have adequate training and resources.

    17. Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.

    18. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

    Minimum Required: High School diploma or equivalent.

    Preferred/Optional: Certificate or diploma in a medical related field or gastroenterology experience.

    CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

    The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

    Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.

    Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.
