About American Express Ventures
American Express Ventures ("Amex Ventures") seeks to identify and invest in category leading startups shaping the future of financial services, consumer commerce and enterprise software. As a value-added investor, Amex Ventures plays a key role in developing and executing long-term corporate strategic initiatives which contribute to American Express' market leadership and growth. Team members work with senior management, C-level executives and business leaders across the company to execute venture investments, both domestically and internationally. The team also initiates and executes non-organic business development and strategic initiatives.
The Amex Ventures team is seeking a highly motivated individual to help develop investment theses, source and execute investments, monitor and support portfolio companies, and drive partnership opportunities.
The role is based in San Francisco, CA or New York, NY.
Job Scope & Responsibilities
In this exciting opportunity, the Investment Analyst will be an integral part of Amex Ventures, playing a key role in the day-to-day evaluation and execution of transactions including strategic rationale analysis, due diligence, valuation, structuring, and negotiations through to closing. The Investment Analyst will be responsible for sourcing, market map/thesis generation, and driving strategic engagement between American Express and its portfolio companies.
Support the development of investment thesis around strategic areas, conducting market and industry analysis
Active involvement in the full lifecycle of venture investing, including sourcing, evaluating, transacting, and managing investments
Proactively identifying potential investments, meeting and qualifying startups; will have extensive exposure to and be expected to develop strong relations with the venture and entrepreneurial ecosystem
Managing and reporting on the active pipeline
Assisting in evaluation of potential target company's and business cases from strategic, operational and financial valuation perspectives
Providing key analysis and support for transactions and working closely with internal and external partners to execute investments
Manage due diligence and financial analysis for transaction opportunities, including preparation of investment memos, oversight of legal negotiations, and management of deal execution processes
Aiding in development of investment recommendations to Investment Committee
Responsible for ongoing monitoring and managing relationships with portfolio companies
Qualifications:
The role is a multi-faceted one and requires both analytical, strategic, and interpersonal skill sets
At least 2 years previous experience in fields requiring in-depth financial analysis, deal execution and/or business development
Track record of being self-reliant, and the ability to operate in a highly ambiguous and fast-paced environment
Strategic skills, with the ability to identify and assess key points, implications and recommendations and to provide thought leadership
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong financial, analytical and valuation skills
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders and to collaborate with others to drive results
Interest in the startup ecosystem
Bachelor's degree required
Qualifications
Salary Range: $55,000 to $105,000 annually bonus benefits
