Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

• Partner with physicians, other clinicians, and administrative leaders to define project scope, timetables, goals, and tactics to build an overall project plan with defined accountabilities. Monitor and document project progress, addressing plan deviations with Executive Sponsor(s), project Champion and team members to re-align team efforts with the plan, or to adjust the formal plan where necessary to acknowledge unanticipated issues.

• Evaluate and document workflows to assess baseline performance, identify and define meaningful metrics, determine reliable source(s) for these measurements, and develop report formats and distribution methods for stakeholders monitoring of ongoing performance as improvements are implemented. Oversee report development and distribution mechanisms with analysts within SOM/CU Medicine and our hospital partners to ensure timely and reliable reporting.

• Estimate project ROI (Return on Investment) by quantifying baseline process cost and outcomes, then developing recommendations for potential cost reductions, new or different resource investments, and/or process redesign to enhance resource stewardship within the faculty group practice and our hospital partners.

• Develop and manage project communication plans to ensure a consistent understanding of project challenges and accomplishments, create buy-in for recommended changes, and facilitate spreading improvements beyond pilot projects. Prepare project reports, vignettes and presentations as needed by the Office of Clinical Affairs, project Executive Sponsor(s), project Champion(s) and project team members to facilitate consistent communication.

• Coach project team members on financial or other quantitative analyses, process flow mapping, root cause analysis, and other process improvement tools to broaden the capabilities of project team members and promote project team engagement.

• Partner with the Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs for project management relating to the Community Practice Division. This will require project development, team-based communication, and longitudinal clinical, fiscal, and quality project management in the Community Practice.

Additional Duties Performed:

• Project management, communication, organizational management, and data analysis for School of Medicine initiatives as identified by the Dean of the School of Medicine or the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs.

• Manage the day-to-day project management operations and maintain artifacts related to status reports, issues, and risks.

• Work with the Senior Associate Dean, Associate Deans, and the Director of Access on patient safety, quality and process improvement, financial analysis, and project design and implementation.

• Assist in data analysis for the Senior Associate Dean and Clinical Affairs team and members of CLC (Clinical Leadership Council).

• Maintain and develop relationships with affiliated hospitals and other clinical partners to improve communication and identify opportunities to strengthen associations with the SOM, solidify business and clinical partnerships, and deepen interdisciplinary collaborations to enhance partnerships.

• Coordinate SOM projects with leadership and SOM Chief of Staff.

• Assist in coordinating activities of the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs' efforts with CU Medicine, affiliates, and partners to minimize duplication and explore opportunities to invest in SOM resources in projects with a positive return on investment.

• Serve as the Clinical Affairs resource to identify new opportunities for quality, process improvement, and patient safety projects.

• Provide business and financial expertise to develop budgets and cost analyses, project financial impact allocations to appropriate budgets and speed types.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in business or healthcare administration, management, accounting, communications, or related field.

• Minimum of four (4) years of relevant project management experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Conditions of Employment:

• This position requires a foundational knowledge of process improvement practices; therefore, the candidate hired agrees to obtain the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification within six months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP).

• Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification.

• Experience working in a large healthcare organization pursuing clinical quality, patient safety, and process redesign improvement initiatives.

• Experience working within the Epic EMR (Electronic Medical Record)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to organize and manage multiple projects concurrently, effectively tracking details, setting priorities, and communicating with team members to ensure deadlines are met.

• Understand healthcare ambulatory and inpatient operations to develop realistic project plans and assign accountabilities.

• Successful leadership working with interdisciplinary teams in an unpredictable and fast-paced environment.

• Understand financial and operational measurements necessary for meaningful analyses and data presentations. Leverage knowledge of the EMR and business intelligence tools to extract and analyze data to support recommendations to leadership.

• Ability to draft documents, build analyses, and create presentations with an awareness of differing audiences and interests.

• Excellent verbal and written skills, including the ability to summarize broad discussions into salient points to document project team meetings and decision-making.

• Capacity to partner with various stakeholders and teammates to always represent the SOM and faculty group practice professionally.

• Willingness to learn or develop new capabilities to benefit yourself professionally and the effectiveness of Clinical Affairs.

• Ability to quickly become familiar with School of Medicine, University, State of Colorado and affiliated hospital partners' policies and procedures.

• Ability to occasionally work a flexible schedule if project teams require meeting times around clinician patient-care schedules.

• Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner to meet deadlines consistently.

The School of Medicine (SOM) Dean's Office has an opening for a full-time Clinical Quality Project Manager in the Office of Clinical Affairs. The position provides support to the Senior Associate Dean, Associate Deans, and the Director of Access. The position works independently to manage projects prioritized by the Clinical Leadership Council and other SOM/CU Medicine Committees focused on clinical practice operations, quality improvement, patient safety, and patient and family experience of care. The individual in this role must have a solid background in business or healthcare. administration and/or fiscal management. Certification in Project Management (PMP) and Lean Six Sigma is highly desirable since experience in project management for process redesign or quality improvement is necessary for success. The ability to research and develop objective and subjective measures and design and prepare detailed summary reports or dashboards is required. Proven experience in financial analyses to measure return on investment (ROI) for quality improvement projects is a plus. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and have demonstrated their ability to develop and implement complex project plans and work effectively with various individuals to ensure successful project completion.
