    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED

    Experience

    • Seven (7) years of relevant experience to include:

    • A minimum of five (5) years of electrical construction, maintenance and/or design experience

    • A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.

    Certification/Licensure

    • Valid Driver's License

    • Roadway Worker Protection Certification level 4 within 6 months

    Preferred

    • Rail industry traction power experience

    • Utility power control center experience

    • Associate's Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technologies or Similar

    • Certified Electrician

    • Vocational or Technical Electrical Training

Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.

    Job Summary

    The Assistant Superintendent Power Desk Control coordinates and implements planned activities and functions of Electrical Power distribution throughout the systems on a given shift. The incumbent supervises and coordinates, assigned power desk controllers and oversees the teams response to equipment or system malfunctions that effect electrical power distribution and computer systems and, at the request or in the absence of the Superintendent, may plan, schedule, and manage specific power distribution operational activities.

    Essential Functions

    • Manages, schedules, coordinates, and implements activities and functions of Electrical Power distribution throughout the systems to ensure uninterrupted power supply to rail system and facilities.

    • Supervises the Power Desk Controller's monitoring of routine, preventative and unscheduled maintenance, inspection, testing, modification and repair of all equipment associated with electrical power distribution systems.

    • Oversees and manages Power Desk Controllers and performs daily supervisory and performance management duties to ensure all policies and procedures of the power desk controllers are being safely and consistently followed with regards to management of third rail power and all other electrical systems.

    • Enforces safety rules and safe work practices.

    • Provides troubleshooting techniques to assist controllers, maintenance staff and field personnel in resolving malfunctions that are particularly challenging.

    • Oversees the team's responses to equipment or system malfunctions that effect electrical power distribution and computer systems, and coordinates deployment of resources to maintain or repair those assets.

    • Ensures the coordination and implementation of emergency plans within the Operations Department and with other departments and/or agencies in accordance with the appropriate protocol.

    • Facilitates sustained interdepartmental cooperation and responses toward the goal of resuming scheduled service during service interruption.

    • Ensures Controller staff exercises effective communication with the onsite incident commander during disruptions and supports and models professional standards in all communications.

    • Leads and coordinates tasks and projects on behalf of the Superintendent that are focused on continuous improvement of operational procedures, processes and systems.

    • Serves as liaison between the Power Desk and operational partner departments (e.g. Maintenance Operations Center, Rail Operations Control Center) to facilitate safe and efficient operational communications with the Power Desk.
