    Job Summary:

    Develop and execute an independent program of research and evaluation resulting in grant and contract awards and recognition for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington and the Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI).

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Establish an independent research portfolio as a Principal Investigator (PI). This includes planning, initiating, and conducting scientific research and evaluation studies; securing intramural and extramural funding; and collaborating with others as a co-investigator while seeking to establish a sustained independent research program as a PI or scientific lead.

    • Provide leadership to local research team. This includes clearly communicating with team members and other staff to implement project activities; being knowledgeable about and compliant with applicable organizational, federal, and other regulatory practices and policies; leading study aims or serving as a content expert when serving as a collaborator; and effectively leading projects/teams when acting as PI.

    • Analyze, interpret, and disseminate research findings to KPWHRI, KFHPW, and the broader scientific community through publications, presentations at scientific meetings, and other appropriate forums.

    • Meet regularly with scientific mentoring team and other peers and leaders to advance ones knowledge and skills as an independent scientist. Share knowledge and skills with others through mentoring staff and junior scientists at KPWHRI.

    • Participates in annual service to KPWHRI (e.g., serving on committees) and the broader scientific community (e.g., peer review manuscripts).

    • Participate in scientific planning and other activities to support the growth and success of KPWHRI.

    Basic Qualifications:

    Experience

    • Minimum two (2) years of graduate-level training in research design and methods.

    • One (1) peer-reviewed scientific paper as co-author or first author, published or in-press.

    Education

    • PhD, DrPH, ScD or similar doctorate degree in health care relevant field, including but not limited to medicine, epidemiology, behavioral science, or health services.

    License, Certification, Registration

    Additional Requirements:

    • Familiarity with appropriate external funding sources and regulatory requirements for individuals field of research.

    • Graduate or post-graduate experience conducting health-related research studies, including crafting research questions, designing study methods, and conducting analyses.

    • Strong aptitude to successfully compete for independent, extramural research funding and to disseminate ones work through peer-reviewed publications and presentations.

    • Content expertise in individuals scientific field, including knowledge of appropriate design and research methods.

    • Strong oral and written communication skills.

    • Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, emotional intelligence, and ability to collaborate with a diverse group of colleagues.

    • Strong aptitude for developing a programmatic body of research and effectively leading research teams, building consensus and cohesion within teams, managing project budgets, meeting project milestones, and executing on deliverables, and complying with applicable regulations.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Minimum two (2) years of post-doctoral professional experience (i.e., research or clinical) and an active independent program of research in a health-related field.

    • Demonstrated ability to conduct and disseminate research products (e.g., publications or paper presentations).

    • Three (3) or more scientific, peer-reviewed papers as co-author or first author (can be published or in-press) at time of hire.
